Molson Brewery puts its trust in turnkey line supplier Krones
Special solutions for non-reusable cartons

Molson, Canada’s largest brewery, will for the first time be commissioning a complete bottling line from Krones, at its facility in Toronto. This line, rated at 60,000 bph at the filler, operates with a sophisticated empties reception zone for returnable bottles in non-reusable cartons. Krones bears overall responsibility for this project, and will supply the line on a turnkey basis, with all the relevant guarantees. |

Non-reusable cartons are sawn open
Canada’s beer market predominantly handles returnable bottles, supplied in non-reusable cartons, in which they are returned to the brewery. To remove the empties from the used cartons, which are often in poor condition, saws are used, which cut the cartons open either at the top or bottom. The top saw, which cuts away the top edge, thus rendering the bottles accessible, operates more or less automatically.
The bottom saw, which is applied just above the bottom of the carton, is also able to cut open double cardboard thicknesses, additional small packs inside, like open carriers, etc. Both variants are provided in the new line. The cartons are depalletised by two high-performance Kettner sweep-off depalletisers, specially modified for the cartons, and then assigned to either the top or bottom saw.
